Charles Baird, Jr. is an American banker who served as the United States Secretary of the Treasury from 2017 to 2021 in the administration of President Laura Montez. Prior to this, he was the CEO of EM Wheelright.

Background[]

Professional[]

Baird was the CEO of EM Wheelright. During the 2016 United States presidential election, he financially supported Bill O'Brien's campaign for the presidency.

Relationship with Selina Meyer[]

On November 11, 2016, newly-appointed economy czar Tom James assembled a banking task force to help right the economy after the 2016 election's economic fallout. President Selina Meyer took over the meeting and gave Baird a personal tour of the West Wing and the Executive Residence. They engaged in a sexual fling that night. The next day, it was reported that Baird had a meeting with Bill O'Brien to discuss him serving as Treasury Secretary in a potential O'Brien administration. Baird appeared apologetic as they continued their relationship.

The press and general public appeared to like Baird's and Meyer's relationship.

In December 2016, a banking crisis resulted in Meyer having the option to bail out EM Wheelright. However, considering the image of how it would look for a president to bail out their confidant's bank, Meyer bailed out EM Wheelright's rival bank, Paulsten-Bernheim. EM Wheelright filed for bankruptcy and Baird's relationship with Meyer came to an end.

On January 19, 2017, it was reported that Baird was being tapped to serve as Treasury Secretary in Laura Montez's presidential administration. Baird was confirmed and served as Treasury Secretary during Montez's term in office. It is unclear if he remained in the position beyond Montez’s presidency.
