William O'Brien is an American politician who served as the U.S. Senator from Arizona. He went against Selina Meyer in the 2016 presidential election, but in a bizarre Constitutional twist, lost to his running mate Laura Montez. He is a member of the Republican Party, and is portrayed by Brad Leland.

O'Brien appears have very conservative beliefs, including supporting a border wall and being a strong proponent of 2nd amendment rights.
O'Brien has an adult daughter who, in college, was rumored to have given oral sex to the college hockey team. He also has a son, who he claims is an idiot and he only loves him for his wife's sake.
U.S. Senate
O'Brien makes his first appearance in Chung, when Dan and Amy go out to dinner with him for support on Selina's filibuster reform bill.
O'Brien makes his second appearance on TV in D.C., criticizing President Stuart Hughes during impeachment talks, saying "A cloud of suspicion hangs over this administration. Were there cover ups? Lies?"
2016 presidential campaign
In the fourth season, O'Brien becomes the Republican presidential nominee and chooses New Mexico Senator Laura Montez for his running mate.
O'Brien continues to be critical of Selina while she is in office, saying "The American people need a president, not a Meyer-tollah," during Selina's middle-east peace tour. He is also critical of Selina's Families First Bill, saying that if the Bill is passed, the concept of a family will come to an end.
He loses the first presidential debate, as shown in Mommy Meyer. On the night of the election, Selina calls him to concede, but upon learning that Pennsylvania's projection was a mistake, doesn't concede, to O'Brien's anger. The election ends in a historic tie.
O'Brien, along with Selina, refuse to concede. News breaks that the margin in which O'Brien won Nevada was less than half a percent, which would constitute a recount. However, the recount works in O'Brien's favor, widening the margin he won and, in doing so, winning the national popular vote.
O'Brien and Montez.
The vote goes to Congress where neither Selina nor O'Brien receives a majority of the votes. The vote then goes to the Senate, where his running mate, Laura Montez, wins the presidency. In a press conference, Montez says that O'Brien supports her presidency and will be supportive during the presidential transition.
As of 2045, it is unknown whether or not O'Brien is still in the senate.
