The 2020 Iowa caucuses took place in February 2020. Senator Kemi Talbot of New York defeated former President Selina Meyer and several other candidates.

May 2019 debate in Des Moines[]
The party's first presidential debate was held on May 18, 2019, at the Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. It was the first debate between the candidates in the campaign for the party nomination for the President of the United States in the 2020 presidential election. It was moderated by CNN's Greg Hart.
Due to the amount of candidates running, only those polling above five percent were allowed to debate.
Meyer was considered to have won the debate.

- ↑ Calhoun's 3rd place finish is likely considering the amount of delegates he amounted by the time of the convention. Also, Iowa has a high percentage of evangelicals. Similar to how well Ted Cruz did with evangelicals in 2016, it's likely Buddy Calhoun did somewhat well in Iowa.
