In 2016, a United States drone strike ordered by President Selina Meyer targeted a wedding near the Pakistani border. The target of the operation was Hamza Al Bashir, a prominent member of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, who was at the wedding. The drone strike decimated a tent at the wedding, killing Al Bashir and numerous civilians.
The drone strike violated Pakistani sovereignty laws.
2020 arrest of Selina Meyer[]
On April 14, 2020, Selina Meyer was in Oslo, Norway, to accept the Peace Summit Award from the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. While there, Meyer was threatened about the footage by Keith Quinn and accidentally confessed to Minna Häkkinen about the drone strike, which killed numerous civilians. Häkkinen reported Meyer's actions to the Interpol, and the International Criminal Court placed a warrant for Meyer's arrest for war crimes. She was to be extradited to the Hague and imprisoned under Article VIII of the Rome Statute. Meyer requested and received asylum at the Finnish embassy in Oslo.
On April 15, 2020, footage of the drone strike was leaked. In an interview with CBS reporter Mike McLintock, Meyer said she would never apologize for keeping Americans safe. However, the footage of the drone strike drew widespread condemnation when it was revealed that Al Bashir had a private zoo. The drone strike resulted in the death of his animals, including an elephant. Upon returning to the United States, Meyer was met with protestors, furious over the death of the elephant.
